"Every child deserves an opportunity for independence."

Shawna Heiser M.S. B.C.B.A

Fifteen years ago Shawna opened her business, Special Learning 1-ON-1 LLC, which has expanded to service children, adolescents and adults with a wide variety of special needs. Shawna’s specialty involves working with families of children and adolescents with behavior, communication and developmental disabilities ranging from Autism to Attention Deficit Disorder.

She currently consults with several different school districts, early childhood intervention programs across the state, and continues a private behavioral counseling practice.

She was trained by five of the top researchers in the field of Autism and is federally recognized as a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst-BCBA. Specialized trainings varying from one to three weeks in length have taken Shawna to New York City, Denver, New Orleans, Seattle, Santa Barbara and Florida.

As her expertise has become more widely known, she has been asked to share this knowledge at many conferences for state organizations such as Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), Comprehensive System of Personal Development (CSPD), Montana Speech and Language Association (MASHA), Montana Occupational Therapy Association, Parents Let's Unite for Kids, Office of Public Instruction, Family Outreach, Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, and Youth Dynamics Inc. among others.

After establishing her business, Shawna returned to the university in 2003 to share the experience and knowledge she has gathered since graduation with her Montana State University Psychology students as a Professor. She teaches a variety of junior and senior level courses including Behavior Modification and Learning and Motivation. Her motto in servicing children is Every Child Deserves an Opportunity for Independence.
