Meet Shawna

Over twenty years ago Shawna began her business, Special Learning 1-ON-1 LLC, which has expanded to service children, adolescents, and a few adults with a wide variety of special needs. Shawna’s specialty involves working with families of children and adolescents with behavior, communication, and developmental disabilities ranging from Autism to Reactive Attachment Disorder. She currently consults with several different school districts, early childhood intervention programs across the state, and continues a private behavioral counseling practice. In private practice she shares office space with a Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist.

In 2009, she became the 4th person in the state to receive a nationally recognized certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. She was trained by five of the top researchers in the field of Autism and is recognized as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in the state of Montana. She has background and specialized trainings ABA intensive training, L.E.A.P project, Greenspan/Floortime, Pivotal Response Training, and ABA; C-BAM scales of assessment.

After establishing her business, Shawna returned to the University in 2002 to share the experience and knowledge she has gathered since graduation with her Montana State University-Bozeman Psychology students as a Senior Lecturer. She teaches a variety of junior and senior level courses including Behavior Modification, Psychology of Learning, Advanced Behavior Analysis and Field Practicum/Internship. Her motto in servicing children is “Every Child Deserves an Opportunity for Independence”.
